What happened to consideration for your fellow (wo)man?

Last night, Ben and I decided to try a few new things to enhance a more restful night's sleep. For example, we tried to decrease the number of night-lights in the hallway, cover up the glaring light of our XM receiver, dip the house temp by 2, and to listen to a CD that is made specifically to encourage sleep.

All was going well......

Until....

I was awakened at 12:15am. I was a bit confused at first. I heard music playing and thought that I had mistakenly set my alarm to go off too early. Then as I became more into focus and conscious, I realized that the music was coming from outside. As soon as I got up to peer through the blinds, Ben woke up. He thought that the blaring music was coming from the unit 2 "doors" down from us. Ben mentioned that some new people had recently moved into that townhouse and he thought that perhaps they were having a party to celebrate.

Ben wanted to investigate further because the music was just so very loud. I mean, realllllly loud. He threw on a shirt, pants and shoes and headed out the front door. When he came back in about 2 minutes later, he was dumbfounded. He explained that the music was NOT coming from the townhouse that is 2 doors down, but rather it was.... are you ready...are you sitting down for this??

It was coming FROM AN ENTIRELY SEPARATE SUB-DIVISION ACROSS THE CANAL!!!

This was unbelievable to both of us. We were just in shock and awe that someone would have the audacity to have a party so big and so loud that their music could be heard in another subdivision THROUGH windows no less. And clearly! I could make out the lyrics and everything!

This went on for an hour. Finally, Ben decided to call the police for a noise complaint. Ordinarily, had this been our community, Ben would have just politely gone over and asked to have the music turned down but since this was in ANOTHER community, he figured that it'd be best for the cops to handle the situation. An hour after that, the music finally subsided (or ended) and somewhere in between we finally got to sleep.

In the morning, Ben went outside to get the car out of the garage and saw across the canal the house in question. (It is also a townhouse type residence.) There were THREE large coolers, one HUGE metal bbq grill --like a smoker thingy-- and about 100 (no exaggeration) empty liquor bottles on a table on their patio. I'm sure it was a helluva party! Ben mentioned too that he noticed last night when he went outside that there was a disco ball spinning just inside the living room area that was visible through the sliding glass door of the unit. Wow-ee!

Like I said, I'm sure it was a killer party but it shouldn't have been at the expense of neighbors in a completely different community!!!

Needless to say, we were both a bit tired when we woke up. Guess we'll have to try our "experiment" on another night.

Until next time...peace, love & HEALTH!!!
